Collection: Topaz

Topaz is a fairly common gemstone with varying hues, but the most common is blue. It has a hardness of 8/10 on the Mohs scale, making it suitable for jewelry. However, because it has perfect cleavage, it is sensitive to shock.

Although there are very light natural blue topaz, almost all blue topaz found on the market is produced following irradiation treatment followed by a heating step. Each type of blue has a name. The most common, from lightest to darkest (and also in ascending order of price), are: Sky Blue, Swiss Blue, and London Blue. There are other trade names like neon, electric, and royal... these are variations. However, these names remain trade names and there are no clearly defined rules.

There is also the rare imperial variety. Its color is orange with a hint of pink. Unlike blue topaz, it is rare and therefore expensive.

There are many "coated" topazes, that is, covered with a very thin film of color to imitate more expensive stones. Topazes treated in this way can be found in all colors.
