Collection: Sillimanite

Sillimanite, little known and rare in gem quality, takes its name from the American mineralogist Benjamin Silliman, who played an essential role in the study and characterization of this gem.

Mainly prized by collectors, it generally appears colorless to yellow-green. Sillimanite is a polymorph of andalusite and kyanite, that is to say it has the same chemical composition as the latter but has a different crystal structure.

Although little used in jewelry, its relatively high hardness makes it quite suitable for this. However, it has perfect cleavage which makes it difficult to trim.
